Spyware has been in the news a lot lately. In fact, the House of Representatives recently passed 2 bills banning Spyware. So, let me explain what it is:

Spyware is software that is installed on your computer without you really knowing about it. It varies from annoying to downright scary. Let me put it this way, it can be as simple as annoying ads that pop up out of nowhere or as scary as someone stealing your identity. Yes, it's that bad.

While the federal government is trying to make it illegal, they won't prevent it from happening to you. However, there are several powerful solutions to completely eliminate and then prevent spyware from appearing on your PC. The one I recommend is Trend Micro's Internet Security Suite. I can help you purchase a the latest release for use on up to 3 computers for $40.

Here are a few ways to tell if you have spyware:

  • Does your computer run slower than when it was new?
  • Do pop-up ads suddenly appear from nowhere?
  • Does your system start up (boot) slower than when it was new?
  • Do random windows quickly open and close during startup?
  • Do unknown icons appear on your desktop, system tray, or toolbar?
  • Does your home page suddenly change?
  • Do Google and Yahoo! searches take you to a different search page?
